The word FREEDOM is frosted instead of brilliantly polished. Last month’s newsletter included an announcement that NGC had certified a proof platinum American Eagle $100 one-ounce piece coined from dies on which the word FREEDOM had been erroneously frosted. The second annual PCGS Million Dollar Coin Club reference guide has been unveiled by Professional Coin Grading Service. Originally launched in January 2010 with 210 "charter member" United States rare coins valued by experts at $1 million or more each, the "club" now has grown to include 235 coins with a combined value of over a half billion dollars. Investigators are currently working a burglary of an auction house in Cheyenne, Wyoming. The suspect or suspects entered the business and took approximately $50,000 in coins. The coins were being prepared for auction when stolen. A Long Island home health care aide is accused of stealing more than $100,000 in rare coins from an elderly employer. Detectives arrested Sonia Walsh, 31, of Far Rockaway on Friday.
