The United States Mint on Tuesday added the 2009 DC & US Territories Quarters Silver Proof Set to its sell out product listing, halting their sales after having been available since March 23, 2009. The latest US Mint sales figures have their total just shy of 300,000, coming in at 298,562 as of Sunday, October 24. These may be the final numbers available until the Mint releases audited figures in 2011. A commemorative £5 John Lennon coin has gone on sale only weeks after what would have been his 70th birthday. Lennon won the Royal Mint's public vote for the next "Great Briton" to be immortalised on a limited edition coin. Other names on the shortlist were Jane Austen and John Logie Baird. The Beatles singer, assassinated in 1980, now joins William Shakespeare, Sir Winston Churchill, Charles Darwin and Florence Nightingale in the series. The coin is priced at £44.99. Stevens Point thief steals $210,000 in coins and jewelry, wsau.com
Stevens Point police are hunting for the thief who stole 7,000 ounces of silver from a house this week. The total stolen comes to just over $160,000. Police detective Tony Zblewski says the silver was mostly in the form of American Eagle silver coins minted between 1986 and 2010. The thief also made off with some gold and jewelry that brings the total theft to over $200,000. Zblewski says they're asking for your help.
