The opening demand for 2010 Proof American Gold Eagles soared past prior-year issues, according to the latest round of gold coin sales figures from the United States Mint. Anticipation spurred one-ounce Gold Eagle sales the most. Buyers snapped up nearly one-third of their authorized mintage in only four days. New 50 pence coins commemorating the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games have been launched. The coins each feature one of 29 sports on the reverse and have been designed by people from England and Wales. They were picked from nearly 30,000 entries in a Royal Mint public competition. The designers range from a Manchester policeman and a delivery driver from Reading to a bank clerk from Preston and a Bristol schoolgirl. The Austrian Mint on Oct. 13 issued the fourth silver coin of its Tales and Legends of Austria series. This latest coin recalls the legends from the Middle Ages of Charlemagne and his army, sleeping deep beneath a mountain near Salzburg and awaiting the need to be called back into active life. The obverse depicts a young shepherd sitting in a lush mountain meadow with his flute. A magical gnome is speaking to him. Ravens are soaring in the sky in the background. Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) today launched commemorative coins to celebrate the Surveying and Mapping Department's (JUPEM) 125th anniversary. In a bid to push the sale of gold coins during this year's festive season, India Post has launched a novel scheme, offering 0.5 gram of gold free on purchase of 10 gram of gold coin from the post offices. The offer was launched from Tuesday and will be continued till the end of December this year.
