US Mint June Coin Production Surges, 2010-D Nickel Mintage Added, CoinNews.net
The United States Mint published coin production figures for June that soar past prior months, capping four straight monthly gains. If coin production reflects the U.S. economic landscape as it seems to have in the past, it would suggest mounting improvement. The Mint’s coinage output in June was more than four times that of January, and 1.4 times more than its May’s run. With six months of 2010 now in the history books, nearly 2.83 billion coins have been struck. In contrast, 3.548 billion were minted in all of 2009, suggesting 2010 could ... Click for coin article

Modesto coin show draws crowd, from serious to first-time, Modbee.com
Not all that glitters is gold -- but it is "proof." Those first-off-the-press coins gleamed like Hollywood props from their plastic sleeves at this weekend's coins and collectibles expo. But the really valuable stuff looked its age. "The kiss of death is going to be if you clean it," dealer Toy Thoreson said, showing a $6,000 pair of silver dollars with an aged patina. With coins, show organizers said, condition is everything. That may be, but those cardboard circles are also just very cool to fill. First-time coin buyer Lestat Bertolero, 10, pushed and ... Coin Monday: A Shield Her Only Armor, HeritageAuctions.blogspot.com
The Boston ANA U.S. Coin Auction is complete, at least on the cataloging end. The work was a bit rough — worked three consecutive weekends, and the catalogs themselves are going to be workout-gear heavy — but we pulled through. Cataloging isn't all I'll be doing for the auction, though. There will be proofreading and a trip out to the printer before the auction is truly over for me. I'd like to give myself a pat on the back, but I don't want to get overconfident. About the time I get up and shout "I am invincible!" like Boris Grishenko is ... Click for coin article

Variety vs. Mint Error, NGCcoin.com
Are you confused about Varieties and Mint Errors? Are you unsure about what varieties NGC recognizes? We will attempt to shed some light on the subject. A variety is a coin that differs from its basic design type in some distinctive way and is thus differentiated by collectors. The 1960 D/D Sm/Lg Date 1C VP-001 is one such example of a variety. This coin was hubbed first with a large date design, then hubbed again with a small date design. Doubling mostly on the inside of date especially on "960." What type of varieties does NGC ... The Faceless Monroe Presidential Dollar, Coins.About.com
A "Faceless" Monroe Presidential Dollar has been found by coin collector Garrett Reich of Michigan. This extremely rare error type, of which only one previous specimen has ever been confirmed, is a Presidential Dollar that didn't get struck by the coin dies, leaving it without any obverse or reverse designs. Reich's coin is a blank planchet with a very important difference from nearly other blank Presidential Dollar coins: it has Presidential Dollar edge lettering on it! Garrett found the coin in a bank box of 1,000 coins wrapped up into 40 rolls on ... Click for coin article
