The latest United States Mint sales figures show that collectors purchased 45,483 of the 2010 Lincoln Cent Two-Roll Sets. The rolls went on sale Thursday, April 8, at noon Eastern Time and the sales figure tally has an "as of date" of Sunday. While the level is healthy, it is substantially below debuting sales from any of the prior four 2009 designs. Rare 12th Century coins unearthed in North Yorkshire have been declared treasure by a coroner in Harrogate. The silver coins were found on remote farmland near Knaresborough by amateur metal detector enthusiasts in 2008. Dating from the reign of Henry I, the haul of 178 coins is believed to be one of the biggest hoards of its kind. An Oceanside man was arrested Tuesday for selling rare coins without the owner’s permission, according to Nassau County police. Anthony Lombardo, 49, a self-employed coin dealer, agreed to clean and appraise three coins for an individual. During the time Lombardo had the coins, he sold them to another person. The recent Chinese rarity has already broken free of its guide price a week ahead of auction. Next week, Heritage is holding a sale of rare coins of the world in Rosemont, Illinois.
