2010 American Silver Eagle bullion coins surged during the start and toward the end of March, capping the best United States Mint quarterly sales since the coin series debuted in 1986. The latest sales figures, however, do not bode well for 2010-dated collector proof and uncirculated versions of the Silver Eagles. Beginning today, banks in Costa Rica will no longer accept large, silver-colored ₡ 5, ₡ 10 and ₡ 20 coins. The only place to exchange them for value will be on the first floor of the Central Bank of Costa Rica in downtown San José. Most merchants stopped accepting the larger coins at the end of December, but commercial banks continued to accept them until March 31 st of this year. Around 20 coins with the image of the father of Alexander the Great, Philip II of Macedon, and "other ancient Macedonian rulers" were found by archaeologists during excavations along the road between the south-western Macedonian towns of Ohrid and Struga, national media reported today.
