2009 UHR Double Eagles are still in demand on eBay, according to CoinNews.net. A recent article said MS-70 is averaging over $2,300, and MS-69 is going around $1,644. The original purchase price from the U.S. Mint on or before December 31, 2009 would have been $1,489 or lower.
Steve Roach discussed copper-nickel 3-cent coins on CoinValuesOnline.com. Three cent coins were struck between 1865 and 1889, and now they are widely available. He said values of circulated examples have seen some increases, but About Uncirculated have held steady. An 1877 Proof is the key, he stated, and one that was auctioned in January went for $3,105.
CoinLink.com promoted a pair of Lots for Bowers and Merena's auction in Baltimore. Last Thursday, it featured their 1901-S Barber quarter, graded MS-68 by PCGS. The article said none have been graded higher. It also said this coin has original luster and a near perfect strike with a reverse devoid of marks. It is Lot #737 and will be auctioned March 4.
The other coin to be auctioned in Baltimore, is an 1879-O Proof Morgan, Class I Branch Mint. CoinLink's article said this coin is the second finest of four known specimens. It is Lot #3104 and is up on March 5.
John Feigenbaum blogged about Certified Acceptance Corp (CAC) statistics. They've evaluated 144,137 coins, insured over $800 million, and issued more than 68,000 green stickers and almost 300 gold stickers. By the way, the stickers are placed on coins that have met CAC's grading standards.
Gold.org reported a group of women discovered a hoard of 27 gold coins in a mud pot in a farming field located in the Thoothukudi district of southern India. The district's archaeological department is assessing the find. The gold coins weighed about three or four grams each and had Arabic inscriptions.
A man who glued a gold coin to his doorstep became a millionaire, according to News.com.au. The article said the man was following feng shui, and then won a couple of BoysTown Lotteries. One winning ticket was for a luxury house and gold bullion.
