CoinNews.net described the penny's launch ceremony and included a picture of U.S. Mint Director Ed Moy and Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum Executive Director Jan Grimes. Pantagraph.com relayed the crowd's penny exchange anticipation and reactions. Several interviewed in the article traveled from out of state just to get their hands on the new rolls. And CoinCollectingNews.org reported there wasn't a coin exchange in Washington D.C. due to the winter blizzard.
BBC News reported the Chile Mint General Manager was dismissed after a spelling error on thousands of coins. The 50-peso coins minted in 2008 were inscribed with "Chiie" instead of "Chile". The article said it wasn't the first mistake by the mint, and cost the general manager and several employees their jobs.
The Perth Mint of Australia released its third Koala silver coin, and this year the bear is guilded in 24-karat gold. SilverCoinsToday.com described the coin and said the mintage is limited to 10,000.
Paul M. Green featured the 1839 Seated Liberty half dollar in his weekly article on Numismaster.com. He said 1839 was the first year of the seated design, but few top quality examples are around today. Three designs were released, and Green explained why. Grades and values were listed.
Yes, people are still talking about FUN's coin show last month, and CoinLink.com published a very informative article about the 20th Century Gold Club meeting during the convention. Well known numismatists were named, gave presentations, and led discussions. A few topics covered in the article included PCGS's Million Dollar Club, information about CAC (Certified Acceptance Corporation), and proof coins.
