CoinValuesOnline.com outlined reasons why fractional gold coins are gaining popularity. The 1/10 ounce and 1/4 ounce American Gold Eagles, with face values of $5 and $10 respectively, have become targets for date set collectors. The main reason is that they're affordable to hobbyists. Their prices are close to their bullion value, except for the low minted 1988 $5 and 1991 $10. Still, the cost is low compared to better dates in other series, the report claimed.
