More in-depth descriptions of coin dealer Julian Leidman's stolen coins were added today to the CoinLink's crime alert article I told you about yesterday. Leidman was driving home from Coinfest when his van was burglarized and over a million dollars worth of coins were stolen. The coin descriptions are at the end of the article. If you have information about the crime or the stolen items, please call the police at 973-257-4113.
Yesterday in a press release, the Royal Mint unveiled the first UK coin designed by a child. The press release includes three pictures of the new coin and the coin specifications. A nine year old girl won a coin design competition, and her artwork will be featured on the reverse of the 50 pence coin next year. She drew an athlete competing in the high jump, and it serves as part of the celebration for the Olympics and Paralympics.

Michael Fazzari advises coin collectors to beware and not buy gray colored raw silver coins that look cleaned or toned, since that is the condition of most Chinese counterfeit coins he has seen. He also recommends a class he took at the American Numismatic Association Summer Seminar in Colorado Springs, CO that covered counterfeits. In his post on Numismatic News, he reveals what he learned from the class.
Four varieties of the rare, gold Capped Draped Bust 1810 Half Eagle coins are described in Doug Winter's market blog today. There were four different date sizes minted that year, he wrote, and size of the 5 on the reverse was also different. Scarcity and grades were covered too.
